DC WASA Holds Public Hearings on Proposed Rate Increase
The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA) Board of Directors is hosting two public hearings to give customers an opportunity to comment on a proposed 8.5 percent increase in water and sewer rates, effective October 2008. The hearings are scheduled:
Wednesday, June 11 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Monday, June 23 10:00 am - noon
Both hearings will be held at:
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments

DC WASA provides water and sewer services for retail customers in the District. Gradual rate increases are required to cover the cost of a 10-year, $3.1 billion capital improvement program to upgrade the Districts water and sewer system and to meet federal requirements for controlling water pollution.
If approved, the new rate becomes effective October 2008 and would raise the average monthly bill by approximately $4.24 (based on an average monthly usage of 8.33 Ccf or 6,231 gallons of water).
