Road Closure On Bingham Drive Begins January 20

January 15, 2016

DC Water will soon be performing construction activities on Bingham Drive, NW in support of its Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.

On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, crews will be working on Bingham Drive between Oregon Avenue, NW and Beach Drive, NW. Specifically, they will be conducting what is referred to as a Seismic Refraction Study on this portion of roadway. Seismic refraction is a common process by which a hand-sized ground measuring instrument, called a geophone, will be placed onto the roadway along the sewer alignment in order to determine the estimated depth of all underlying surface materials, down to bedrock. The study will be part of ongoing testing of local soil conditions in preparation for construction of the project.

Although there is no required excavation of the roadway for the study, Bingham Drive will need to be temporarily closed to allow successful completion of the work.

This will be a one-day operation, weather permitting. Work will be performed between the hours of 9:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Important Information:
*Bingham Drive, NW between Oregon Avenue, NW and Beach Drive, NW will be closed during work hours. Traffic detour signs and/or flagmen will be set up throughout the area to alert motorists to the upcoming closure.
*Wise Road, NW and Military Road, NW may be used as alternative routes for eastbound/westbound travel on Bingham Drive.
*Delays within the vicinity of the work zone are anticipated.
*Should the work take more than one day, there will be no activities scheduled on weekends or public holidays.

To keep everyone safe, motorists should stay alert and obey the posted speed limits when traveling through this area. DC Water is working closely with the National Park Service and District Department of Transportation to ensure minimal disruption during this work.
