WASA Communications Awarded in National Competition

Washington, DC – Communications by the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) have received recognition from The Communicator Awards– the largest competition in the country for production, design marketing, communication, advertising and public relations professionals. The organization receives more than 14,500 entries annually in print, video and audio categories.

*The Fiscal Year 2004 Annual Report, Meeting Exceptional Challenges – Making Exceptional Progress, received the Award of Excellence. The 40-page publication highlights the WASA’s operational and financial achievements.

*An Award of Distinction was presented to the Authority for its 60-second radio public service announcement (PSA) Keeping Catch Basins Clean. The PSA is recorded in English and Spanish and targets the 18-to-34 radio audience in the District – urging listeners not to pollute our waterways, like the Anacostia River.

“We have a broad-based public communications program, and we are extremely proud to have our efforts recognized in an independent, international awards competition,” said WASA General Manager Jerry N. Johnson. Johnson announced the awards at the Board of Directors’ monthly meeting in June.

DC Water is reaching out to nearly 25,000 customers this month with important information about the material of their water service lines. These annual notifications are part of DC Water’s ongoing commitment to prevent exposure to lead and remove lead service lines from the District’s drinking water system through the Lead Free DC initiative.
