WASA issues results of copper service line test pits

March 30, 2004

(Washington, DC) D.C. Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) officials announced the results of "test pits" done at 49 houses where records indicated copper service lines, but water tests indicated high levels of lead. The test pits revealed that 42 of the houses have service lines that are lead or some portion that is lead. WASA will revise its records to indicate the correct pipe material for these homes. WASA is continuing to check the service lines of other homes recorded as "copper", but with high lead levels.

A chart of the results is attached.
