WASA Prepares for Hurricane Isabel

September 17, 2003

The DC Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) is preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Isabel and the potential storm-related issues that may result. We want you to know how we're preparing and how you can prepare too. In accordance with our emergency plan, and working with the District's Emergency Management Agency, WASA has its regular crews and extra crews inspecting and cleaning catch basins and storm drains, with special attention to areas that have experienced flooding in the past. Our designated and essential workers are prepared to work extended hours and committed to serving our customers. Our emergency number, 202-612-3400, will be fully staffed with experienced customer service representatives ready to handle emergencies and requests. WASA is also securing the capital projects in our neighborhoods and at our facilities so that flying debris will be less of a concern. In the event we should lose power to our water pumping station and unable to provide normal water pressure to your homes and businesses, we recommend that you use water wisely during this period. WASA also has a regular seat at the District's Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Operations Center.
